Buena Vista KOA

27700 County Rd 303
81211, Buena Vista
Colorado, the United States

The stunning view of Mount Princeton provides a great way to wake up as you prepare for your day’s adventure in the Arkansas River Valley or in the majestic Collegiate Peaks. The view from your campsite at this KOA is buena indeed - a panorama of five 14,000-foot-plus peaks frames this mountain valley. Tucked among rocks and shaded by pinon pines, the campground is a few miles southeast of the small resort town of Buena Vista and a mile from the Arkansas River. Hike or bike on public land adjacent on three sides of the KOA. Your hosts can arrange for a wide variety of other pursuits - such as rafting, fishing, ATVing, jeeping and soaking in hot springs - or direct you to hiking trails, ghost towns and rockhounding sites. At the KOA, play sand volleyball, basketball and horseshoes. Breakfast is served summer mornings in the Cook Shack. Enjoy this quiet and tranquil setting. Groups are welcome!

Twice I have stayed here and have had utilities fail. My first visit was an overnight in a full hookups site. The site was dirt, and so off level I needed to stack 5 blocks under my tire. After getting set up. I discovered that the sewer pipe was 1) on the tall side 2) elevated at least a foot above the ground, meaning my sewer port on my RV was located at least 6” under the opening of the sewer pipe. How am I supposed to dump up hill? I can’t imagine any RV making this work. It was impossible to clean my tanks this way, money wasted, as this is what we came here to do (overnight dump/fill) The second visit was three nights in full hookups. 7pm the third night we were told that our water would be shut off for an undetermined amount of time. It wasn’t ready by the time we were packing up and leaving, so we had to go to another site, setup again, and clean and fill our tanks. Pardon their dust? This is more than dust, this is a bad experience. close the park and open it when your sites are ready. As full time travelers, the only reason we go to a full hookup park is to use the hookups. This park has taken our money and not fulfilled their end of the bargain too many times, I will never return, and encourage you to keep driving. Arkansas River Rim is a much better, well maintained, cheaper campground.
