This location may not be suitable if you're driving a truck or a trailer. Given that our truck and trailer combined length is 55, we struggled to find a flat parking spot that we could fit into without having to unhitch and end up on uneven ground. However, if you're arriving in a van or a camper, you might find it more accommodating.

We came here and were greeted by Don the camp host. He walked through the campground as we drove to help find a great camp site. Restrooms are clean , no trash at all and it is very quiet here with only a generator here and there but are all quiet . Night sky and views from top of turtle rock are pretty amazing . Definitely a little rough road in but take it slow and all is well . Happy camping !!

Where do I begin? The site itself is a little bumpy and rocky to get up the hill, but not bad. Wouldn’t recommend going up and down too many times but it is nice! Lots of hiking and bike trails around this area, and if you have any kind of of off road vehicle you’ll have the absolute time of your life. 2 pit toilets, one at the bottom of the hill when you first turn onto the dirt road, the other one is in the camping area that the GPS will take you. Tons of spots in this area. We were there over the Fourth of July weekend and it wasn’t as packed as I expected it to be. Lots of people there for a night maybe two, but we had a nice neighbor that was there the whole time we were. Cell signal spotty for Verizon (between one and three bars, but honestly it felt like a consistent half a bar) unless you hike around the big rock then you’re good to go. Definitely recommend!

We stopped here on our way between Colorado Springs and Aspen. Nice spot for 1 night. Road is real pot holed, but manageable at a slow speed.

I stayed here in late Sept 2020. The temps were just beginning to drop. Cool temps overnight, but very comfortable days. There are 22 sites and 2 vault toilets. The camping area road is a loop, with a couple spurs to tent camping. The roads are not wide enough for two RVs to pass in opposite directions, so go right around the loop. Turtle Rock is a large solid rock which blocks the line of sight of cell towers. I am currently testing the 4 major cell phone providers. Verizon was fine at my spot 15, but the others were poor. Now, if you were willing to take a daily walk, just to the left of turtle rock, there is a path that allows you to clear the large rock. In this clearing, you can see the road and river below and you now have line of sight with the towers. All services worked here, but only Verizon worked well in camp (AT&T was ok in camp). If you would like some visual details of the area, you can check out my Turtle Rock video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/JSjs8ZHPPjg

This was our first boondocking experience, but it was great!! Easy to get to, lots of places for our kids to explore (5 and 7). Quiet spot.

This is part of the Fourmile dispersed camping area. It would seem the entire place is huge. How the big rock is a turtle beats me. There are toilets there now. No difficult to find a nice level camp spot. I had zero T-Mobile reception. Absolutely nothing. That is why I moved today otherwise I would have stayed for 14 days. Soon as I left the camp ground the signal popped up no problem. I am not a hiker / climber etc I am a nomad so this was just somewhere to park for free. No signal means no dice.

We arrived late in the day on our way to Leadville. Great spot for one night, I wouldn't want to stay any longer. We did just stay in the front parking lot because it was late in the day. ATVs going by at 3 am.

I'm in a truck camper and I was here over 4th of July weekend. All size rigs here.I can't believe there were clean maintained pit toilet bathrooms here. What a bonus. And it's free. Excellent hiking and climbing and biking all around. Nice big spots. I love this area

This site was so clean! Super quiet as there weren’t many people out due to covid. There were plenty of flat spots to park rigs and deploy my rooftop tent. But you can walk back even further to get more secluded and there are tons of dispersed sites with fire pits. Overall a perfect weekend getaway Site quality only gets a 4 since the bathrooms weren’t finished being installed.
