Alameda County Fairgrounds RV Park in the United States

The place is jam-packed. It appears to have about 200 slots, with many looking to be occupied indefinitely. The space between each slot is minimal, giving a sense of being piled up on each other. If you make a reservation through the internet and later decide to modify it, unfortunately, that option is not available. It's worth mentioning that there are two locations separated by a quarter-mile distance.

This is a typical fairgrounds campsite...a big gravel lot with 200 campers - mostly full timers. My gripe is that management did not let us know that the water would be turned off...even though this was planned maintenance. Not when we made reservations nor when we checked in. As we have several days of dry camping ahead of us...we were planning on dumping our tanks and filling up our fresh water. Really no excuse for the lack of communication.

So it's a fairground campground...our expectations aren't high for these types of campgrounds. But we needed to hit some specific retail stores and to visit family in Santa Clara on our way toward Bakersfield. This campground fit the bill. Based on what we'd read about this location we expected to find the campground fairly empty on a winter weekday so we didn't reserve in advance. Bad idea. The 30 amp sites were full and there were only a few 50 amp sites left. Many of the grassy pull through sites were closed because the recent rains have made the ground too soft. Add to that nearly every other site was taken by construction crews working in the area, all staying by the month or more. The campground was packed with large rigs and big pickup trucks in the available rows. Campground wifi was excellent until everyone returned from work and all logged on at once. The wifi was unusable from 5-10:30 pm That's the bad stuff. The good stuff is easy access from the freeway, helpful, friendly staff, clean bathrooms, fairly quiet and perfect location for visiting the Bay Area without taking a large rig there. There are plenty of stores, restaurants and fuel stations nearby although the closest was probably 1/2 mile away...a long walk while carrying groceries. So we'll probably stay here again if visiting family but won't ever come without reservations.

Fairgrounds don't tend to be the most atmospheric places and this is no exception. It's a gravel lot that packs 'em in, so be prepared to know your neighbors. Fortunately it is not too crowded when there isn't an event on, so you tend not to be jammed in too close, but don't expect to be inspired by your surroundings. The good thing about this place is its location and that's the only reason you will probably stay here. It is a 20 minute walk into downtown Pleasanton, which is a cute town with nice restaurants and a few cafes and bars. And all the amenities you might need are in the surrounding area plus there is the Full-time RVers best friend nearby; an Amazon Locker . Uber also covers this area so you can easily get around to local wineries in Livermore and not worry about a designated driver. Another bonus to the location is Pleasanton BART station is a few miles away, so in less than an hour you can take the light rail and be in downtown San Francisco. We used to live around here, so when we stop to visit friends it's the best option in the East Bay for location and accessibility. There are no curfews which blighted our social life in other nearby regional parks.

We stayed for two weeks at the Fairpark RV north lot in early November and it was definitely not the nicest campground we've been in. It's basically a glorified parking lot but that being said, the spaces were hard packed gravel and level, which was a plus. Honestly, for the price, you don't get much. There's a grassy area for dog walking outside the gate, there are bathrooms and a small laundry room, there's an outdoor cooking area that I'm not sure even counts as a cooking area, and also a small parts store and general store. At night its pretty quiet although you can hear a train going by at times. All in all, the campground itself is nothing spectacular but you can't beat the Pleasanton area and how close it is to all the fun things there are to do in the East Bay.
