When our generator conked out near the start of our trip, we were no longer able to camp off the grid. Finding a full service site in the Black Hills in July is a challenge. Thanks to staff member Jean, we secured a shady creek side site that included a covered deck, propane gas grill and fire table, and comfortable Adirondack chairs. The staff spoiled us. Everyone was attentive and helpful. Special thanks to Randy who made sure our black/grey tanks were emptied daily- they have honey wagon service - and shared his favorite day trip recommendations. The owners are committed to providing an outstanding experience for the guests. They are expanding the campground, upgrading the bath houses, and adding amenities to many of the sites. The campground is centrally located in the Black Hills. Must drives include 16A - a winding road with one lane tunnels that frame Mt. Rushmore as you drive through, Needles Highway, Spearfish Canyon Road, and the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park.

We can not say enough how much we enjoyed our stay at Crooked Creek RV Resort in Hill City, SD. This is a beautifully maintained and exceptionally run park. The staff here is awesome and very welcoming and friendly. The sites are a combination of pull-thru and back-in with FHU. A lot of upgrades were in the works during our stay and I enjoyed talking to Lars, the owner, who explained his vision of what the park is and would be. The owners here really care about providing a relaxing and fulfilling stay. They even have live music in the weekends. We loved our shaded back-in site which was a snap to negotiate even with a 35 foot fifth wheel. You can also get a premium site that runs along crooked creek with full deck, fire pit and grill. The park is on a 100+ mile trail that runs through the Black Hills. This is by far a 5 star review as we hated to leave and plan to be back next summer. A real gem! Right off the highway so super noisy. Pulled in on a Thursday night and park was PACKED. We thought it was the weekend crowd but it wasn’t! They cleared out and it filled back up for the weekend. Spaces are EXTREMELY close together all-around. Like RIDICULOUSLY close. We have an ultralight 28 foot and it took us an unusual 5-10 minutes to back in, nearly hitting a tree and the neighbors picnic table, camp hosts guide most campers in and he had to move neighbors items + picnic table just for us to squeeze in. With that type of setup, we had a gorgeous view of their sewage hose right outside our front door. Not ideal for over $60 a night once you pay for their upgraded WiFi because the free one doesn’t work. Camp hosts and management are kind but sort of unorganized. We had to move our spot on the second day and she gave us 4 spots to look at that weren’t even available. If you want an easy, simple check-in process you should probably avoid this place. They asked for my children’s full names for “homeland security” which has NEVER happened in our full time travels. Showers are hot but could definitely be cleaner. Pool is SUPER small but nice. We didn’t go because with 5 kids splashing around in there, they take over the entire pool. It seems like they are working on upgrades to the place like a cafe/coffee shop, there’s a nice field of grass where they offer horseshoes for surprisingly no charge. There is a nice creek running through the camp and some SUPER nice spots complete with wooden decks, chairs, fire pits. Some are even built overlooking the creek. Very cool. Those spots are probably 100 bucks though given they up charge the bigger spot you need.

We had some vehicle trouble (bad gas) as we started our trip. As a result we arrived to the RV park too late to park...and we knew it. We pulled into their parking lot at about 10:45pm. We were just happy to be there and be able to park. Much to our surprise help arrived out of the darkness! One of the staff named Pascal, showed us where we could park and plug into 110v for which we had our own adapter. We were so thankful that we now had electric too! In the morning we were guided to our first spot #57. Let me first say that these grounds are extremely well kept and beautiful. The staff go out of their way to be there right when you need them! It's amazing how they do that! They help you park your RV, they give you boards if you need to level out, which really helped. These people are so amazing, that halfway through the day they offered to extend our stay since we spent our first night in the parking lot. When we said that we could not, they offered to upgrade us to the spot across the way. The new space #60 was twice as expensive as the spot we rented. It sat right on the creek with a deck overlooking the water. It also included a propane fire pit and a gas grill! We were so excited! We loved this RV park and wished we could have stayed longer!!!

This RV park looks like there are improvements being done. Some of the sites are pleasant, others (the ones with full hookups) are extremely tight. Staff are as friendly as they can be. Two bathhouses; one very tiny and the other, larger, but not as private. Many sites with shade. Road noise all day and early morning, but very quiet at night. Campfires every night.
