Waterberg Wilderness Reserve

Naauwkloof Farm
Naboomspruit, Limpopo
Limpopo, South Africa

Waterberg Wilderness Reserve is a highly recommended property for self catering in Naboomspruit for tourists visiting the Waterberg region.

About Waterberg Wilderness Reserve
The Waterberg mountain range is situated in the central Limpopo province of South Africa and is one of the more pristine, scenic and wildlife rich areas in South Africa. Positioned on the Eastern side of the Waterberg range the Waterberg Wilderness reserve is only 2.5 hours from Johannesburg and conveniently positioned half way to Botswana. Due to the rugged nature of the reserve which is typical of the Waterberg, a 4x4 vehicle or vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended to access the property. In the wet season a 4x4 vehicle is often essential. Certain areas of the reserve offer spectacular views over the surrounding hills and valleys and exploring the impressive gorges with natural streams and pools is certainly a highlight. The reserve is ideal for the more active with some beautiful walks and potential mountain bike trails. The Waterberg wilderness camp is situated on a plateau between two deep and picturesque gorges with excellent views over the surrounding hills and valleys. The reserve offers accommodation in the Waterberg Wilderness camp but is exclusive and can only accommodate a maximum of 8 guests in safari tents. All accommodation is self-catering with comfortable and complete facilities. There is a waterhole in close proximity to the camp and it is not uncommon to have good game viewing from the campsite or deck of the safari tents. No supplies can be purchased on the reserve and the safari tents are all self- catering. The safari tents are run off solar power but are well equipped with all cooking and kitchen utensils. Game drives are allowed in your own 4x4 vehicles and both guided game walks and game drives can be arranged with prior notice. The Waterberg Wilderness reserve is home to a large number of animal species as well as over 250 bird species and ideal habitat for a very large number of reptile species. The African rock Python and Black Mamba, too sought after species for reptile enthusiasts are common to the area. The wooded gorges and rugged terrain make the ideal habitat for a number of species including Leopard and Brown Hyena both of which frequent the area on a regular basis. Game viewing is good as large numbers do occur on the property and the mountainous terrain offers the chance to see some species like Mountain Reedbuck, Eland and Klipspringer which are rarely sighted in many other reserves. The Waterberg wilderness reserve is a nature reserve with the main objective of conserving nature and the species that occur within the reserve. Sustainable ecotourism is there to support and not detract or affect the ecology of the reserve. The ecology and wildlife will always have preference but the ecotourism assists in generating the revenue required to maintain the reserve.

Our experience was fantastic and we plan to return promptly. It was serene, tranquil, with excellent paths for strolling and off-road driving.
