Upon arrival, one is immediately greeted with vulgar political banners on the proprietor's land. It's inappropriate for children to be subjected to such mature foolishness. One visitor was proudly displaying a Confederate flag. We have no intention of revisiting.

We went to Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville, New Jersey, for a quiet getaway weekend. This is a small and basic campground, not a resort. No fancy amenities. We stayed in Site # 51 in the Fence Loop - a pull-thru with 50-amp, water, and sewer. The hookups seemed to work just fine. The all-grass site just fit our 37’ motor home (see photos). This was our first stay at this campground — and we’re glad we went. The most unique aspect we found was the cow pasture (see photos). It was a lot of fun watching the cows eating and interacting. I intentionally reserved the site we had to be close. This row of sites lacked the trees for shade and privacy found at most other sites around the campground. The pool was nice and clean. Wifi worked well enough for us to stream Netflix and YouTube. We didn’t use the shower or laundry facilities. The website, posted signs, confirmation email, and check-in instructions all included a list of strict rules regarding conduct while on property and everyone seemed to abide by them during our stay. The language seems a bit rude at first, but we all agreed we’d rather stay at a place with hands-on management and compliant campers than deal with noise and unsafe conditions. Couple of negatives and tips: The water hookups are shared every other site (at least in the Fence Loop). I was lucky my 75’ hose barely reached the distance needed. Be sure to bring extra hoses. There’s no cable TV which wasn’t an issue for us because we have plenty of streaming options. Bring your own entertainment if you’re used to watching TV. If your travels take you in the area of Salem County, NJ, this place is worth checking out. You might like the cows and the basic quiet surroundings as much as we did! NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with manicured grounds, water parks, and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.

If you had a chance to check out the other reviews online for this campground you saw several reviews about the abrasive nature of the management and staff at this campground.. But my experience tops them all. If anyone has ever stayed in this campground you are aware of the huge speaker system on the roof of the general store office that the owners use for announcements to the entire campground - yes the entire property - it's that loud! God forbid you might be napping when this thing goes off. You will fly off the bed. It looks like a war surplus air raid siren and it's just as loud. On this night 10/24/2020 it's a cool night and all the RV's have their windows slid open. It's been cloudy so with the sun starting to set it made it prematurely dark and it's very peaceful as advertised. Suddenly, there is a blast of noise that sent everyone asking "What the hell is that?" The management of this campground decided to crank up the loud speakers to max volume with Halloween theme music at 5:30 in the afternoon. My campsite being only 100 yards from the office, I was subject to OO EEE OO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BING ringing in my ears. I endured this abuse for an hour hoping it would end until it didn't and I reached my boiling point.. At 6:30 I went to the office and told the attendant how stupid - how ridiculous - how annoying this music is for the campers - along with some well deserved expletives while explaining just how ignorant the management of this park must be. "I'm trying to have dinner with my family at the picnic table and we can't hear each other speak!" and I had more expletives for the campground owners who soon descended on me. Long story short - the owners dug-in and said they will play their music as long and as loud as they want to. They said it's a special event of their Halloween Week for the kids although there wasn't a kid in sight and by now it's 7:30 and pitch dark. Halloween is next weekend anyway but the music continues. Complete BS. They left me no choice but to call the local cops to site them for disturbing the peace. That was a waste of time. This is one-horse town - one stop light anyway - the cops are their pals so the cops were useless saying that management can do whatever they want to do and I can leave if I don't like it. Dedicated servants in action! If any of those cops were on a camping weekend with their family and some moron started blasting music into their windows they would do something about it. Cops are supposed to ask the person behind the music to lower the volume for the sake of others around him. These cops know that, but evidently this particular moron is their backyard buddy playing the music. Long story short - the cops told me the owners want me to leave and I have no choice. The cops stood watch over me while I packed-up my RV and followed me off the property with a refund for the night that I never got to enjoy. And the music was still blasting away.as I drove out the front gate and down the road. So if you are thinking about staying at this campground I would think twice. What I have said and what the other reviewers have said is absolutely true. There are much better campgrounds with better management out there.
