During our journey to the Keys, we halted at this pleasant campsite. If we were to revisit, it would merely be for a night's stopover. The campsite is well-maintained with clean restrooms. Although there are no showers, potable water is available near the entrance. This campsite is home to alligators that inhabit the central pond. I've spotted one occasionally, but the camp manager mentioned that they often come to nest in this area. It's quite astonishing that dogs are permitted here, considering the alligator presence. Dog walks are restricted to the right side of the road, away from the lake. My spouse once witnessed an alligator emerging and slipping between two campers at night, and I heard one growling while I was out with our dogs during the day. I didn't see it, so I presumed it was hidden in the shrubs along the bank, prompting us to promptly leave the area. While the campsite is decent, one must exercise caution while strolling, particularly with young children or pets, and always have a flashlight handy after dark.

Situated within the boundaries of Big Cypress National Preserve, this campsite was booked via recreation.gov. The RV section of the site is arranged in a circle around a pond, with an extra smaller ring accommodating 10 tent spaces. The western part of the campsite contains RV spots 1-13, which are fairly open with sparse shade-providing trees. The eastern half, housing spots 14-26, offers more shade, though not for all spots. All spaces require reversing into. Spot #20 was fairly flat and offered a good amount of shade. However, low branches could pose issues for taller 5th wheel trailers. Each spot was equipped with functioning electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings. Restrooms are available on-site, but shower facilities are not. There is a waste disposal station and drinkable water source near the exit. Unfortunately, no alligators were spotted during our single night stay. We would have loved to extend our stay but managed to secure this spot last minute. We would certainly visit again! Notably, there was virtually no Verizon network coverage.

Silence reigns, there's no mobile network, yet numerous crocodiles can be spotted if you cycle down the street. It's a minimum of 45 minutes to the nearest store, hence ensure you have all necessary supplies before setting off.

Have camped here many times. All sites by reservation only. Many flying bugs but few mosquitoes. No showers. All sites level and paved. No alligator this time, unusual. Good access to Everglade sites by vehicle.

I liked this campground because it was quiet and was in close to proximity to Shark Valley for the Everglades and a nice jump off point for activities in Big Cypress National Preserve. I was in site 13 and there is very little shade at this site. However, it is on the very end so it is very private. The site was clean and spacious. The bathrooms were pretty clean. There was not a campground host, but NPS workers checked with me to make sure that I was the one that had actually reserved the site. Sunday night the park was about half full and Monday and Tuesday only about 1/3 full. Overall, a very nice spot.

We enjoyed staying here, but realize it has no cell signal, nor water or sewer hook-ups. Nice to have electricity to run the A/C though. We stayed on the east side which has much more shade than the west. You will see your neighbors a lot, but we had no problem with this. Access to Everglades Shark Valley 16 miles away and Oasis Visitor Center which has birds and gators aplenty. Careful of the drivers on Hwy 41; the natives will feel the need to pass you even if you go the speed limit. The park has a spot to fill your fresh water when you arrive and a dump station for when you leave. Do make sure you fuel up before you arrive as well as have food/supplies. The only gas station I remember on 41 was across from the Shark Valley entrance which works in a pinch. When we return, we may try to stay on the Gulf side of the Everglades but don't know if any of the sites have electricity...

Don’t expect to get cell service here! There are actual gators in the lake in the middle of the campground. Nice visitor center just up the road and a short distance to a scenic drive loop where you can see A TON OF ALLIGATORS! perfect stay for one night in the middle of nowhere.

This park is perfectly situated between Shark Valley, Clyde Butcher’s Photography Art Gallery, Kirby Storter Roadside Park and Monument Lake. My cost per night is low because I have a National Parks Senior Pass. After looking at all the campgrounds in this area, I think Midway is the best. The park only got three stars from me because 1) there is no shower facility; and, 2) I heard the people who clean the restroom say that they only clean 1 time per week. When I was there, the park was full of RVs and tent campers so the restrooms were used a lot and dirty within 2 days! They may not need to clean all the time more than once per week but when the park is full 3x per week is needed! The grounds were clean of trash. Good paved interior roads; good entry & exit; mostly shaded; potable water is available although no water hookups; big rigs will be tight on the east side. The Shark Valley Tram Tour and Kirby Storter Roadside Park boardwalk are awesome activities. ATT cell service was non existent unless you drove west toward Monument Lake.

Other sites would have been more private but all seemed to be about the same size and level. No camp host and reserved sites haven’t been updated since March so disregard the tags and be sure to check the website for availability. No one to make sure sites are clean, ours had cigarette butts and half a pack left on table. Centrally located to Naples and Miami/Homestead, once everyone left from holiday weekend, it was very quiet. Stargazing is a plus!

No frills campground, level asphalt pads with electric. Convenient to big cypress attractions. Decent spacing between sites but with no privacy.

Have waited six months into our RV life to start reviews for fair comparisons. Stayed 5 nights in 35 foot RV+tow car in 3 different sites. This was one of our least favorite stops so far. Essentially a circle of closely parked RV’s just off busy highway around a lake with gators (never saw any, but signs to NOT walk your dog on the lake side). So to walk your dog you have to let them wee all over your neighbors “land” which is mortifying. Limited to no cell signal. When we went to leave we were told we couldn’t use the dump station because it was full. And we couldn’t use the restrooms because they had a power outage that morning. Not sure what the connection is there, but that’s what we were told. Lots of generators running that morning. And yet it was fairly full, as the beauty is it is a great stopping point to head to southern FL and the Keys. And I suppose the clue is in the title, midway between the east and west coast of Florida. The camp hosts and people we met there were very friendly. The night star skies when not cloudy were incredible. I suppose this is one of those “It is what it is” places. Some campgrounds we love just because we love being there in the actual campground. This is not one of those, but it is a means to an end. We enjoyed the nearby Loop Road in Big Cypress.

First time visitors to Midway Campground...and most likely our last...this is a great location for exploring Big Cypress, yet it has some shortcomings that may not be for everyone...there are pros and cons... PROS 1. Easy access off of Tamiami Trail 2. Easy check-in with the camp host 3. Grounds itself appear very tidy 4. Close to many of Big Cypress attractions 5. Peace and quiet CONS (totally subjective) 1. Electric only at campsite...potable water only availabe at front of campground from a single faucet, near dump station. 2. Communal bathroom has no showers, and were pretty dirty during our visit. 3. Campsites are too close together, with no privacy between. 4. Not all campsites have fire rings (#9 where we stayed did not), so if roasting marshmellows is important, check in advance. 5. Too many day trippers having picnics...which are allowed in the campground...I don't really get this, since there are so many picnic spots along Tamiami trail. 6. If you don't have a Park Pass that gives a discount, $30 per night is a tad pricey for what you get. A note on alligators: The little lake has gators, as do most bodies of fresh water larger than a puddle in Florida. There are signs warning of them all around the campground. A large one, maybe 10 feet came out of the water and got very close to some day trippers having dinner under one of the gazebos, maybe 20 feet from them. Either they threw some food or the gators are accustomed to humans from past behavior. The camp host came over with a hoe and busted this gator right on its long snout to chase it back in the water...really uncomfortable to watch...

We booked this campground because of the location. We wanted to take an airboat ride and bike Shark Valley Loop. Unfortunately shark valley loop was closed due to flooding. I thought it was kind of steep price for what it was. Electric only. We had to fill our water and dump at the entrance. But clean and quiet so no real complaints. Will use again in the future but not for more than two nights.

Midway campground is midway between Naples and Miami. Not much out there except the highway and millions of acres of swamp. It's a great place to get away. The sites are fairly large with well-manicured grass, though no vegetation to screen you from your neighbors. I didn't find that to be a problem. The campground is right beside the highway so you should expect to hear some traffic, though we found that it dies down quickly at night. Expect to hear all the strange swamp critter sounds once the sun goes down. There are not a whole lot of activities at the campground. There is the lake and canals along the highway you can fish in. Otherwise there are no hiking trails and biking along the highway appears to be a dangerous endeavor. The visitor center is only a few miles away and there are nearby scenic drives that will give you a chance to see alligators and wading birds. There are also a few trails you can drive to but be aware of water levels as the hiking may be quite wet. A note about mobile coverage: No coverage at the campsite, however I was able to get a single bar of Verizon out by the highway (no ATT signal). Using my booster and a directional antenna at the campsite I was able to get a decent signal from both carriers (2-3 mbps).

I guess we got lucky -- not sure if reservations are required here or not. The website says you can make reservations on recreation.gov, there is a sign on site that says "reservations only" but there is another sign that says to choose a vacant spot and self check in at the kiosk, cash only, $30/night for rv sites and $24/night for tent. I guess someone who had reserved the spot we chose could have showed up, but luckily nobody did. Not busy at all mid week in Oct when we stayed here. About 5 rvs and 1 tent. There are 24 RV sites and 10 tent sites. RV sites have electricity only. Dump and potable water available on the way out. Cell service would go in and out for Verizon and ATT, between 3g, 4g, 1 bar, 2 bars, no service. Campground is right off the road but we didn't hear too much road noise. Nice and peaceful place. No campground host or staff on site when we were here.
