Our initial reception by a friendly woman who provided us with ample information about the town and its attractions was great. However, everything else was a disappointment. They failed to inform us beforehand about the extra charge for using a credit card and only accepted cash to avoid this fee, with no checks accepted. It was somewhat a relief to be virtually alone during the low season, as a full camp would mean RVs cramped together with tents in close proximity. Troubles began when we received two parcels during our stay. We had informed the office about their expected arrival, but the office was always closed and the contact number led to an RV resident who rarely picked up and never returned calls. We were notified four days later that our first package was at the post office and the second one was left on their back porch without any call to inform us. We had to call to inquire about our package. The unhygienic conditions were a major concern, with open bags of garbage scattered around the remote sites and uncleaned bathrooms. The garbage from the shower/bathroom was not cleared during our stay. The campground is not prepared for winter RVing: our water connection froze at their faucet, so we had to disconnect our water and sewer and use antifreeze in our system. On our final night, their power pedestal malfunctioned, leaving us without heat during a night that recorded single-digit temperatures. We checked our power cord early in the morning and found the 20 amp was working, providing some heat but not sufficient to run all our appliances simultaneously. Despite these issues, we appreciated the quaintness of Townsend and its proximity to parks and hiking spots, which made for enjoyable day trips. This is why we gave it two stars. However, if we return, we will opt for a state park instead.

Full hook-ups and cable tv, backed up to about ten feet from the river. Gravel, with a concrete pad for the plastic picnic table. Courteous staff. Hayrides on the farm. Rooster for an alarm clock. Convenient access to Cades Cove, a must-see attraction. Rooster leads a parade of hens through the RVs around 9am every morning. Sites are close together and lots of mature trees make big-rig parking challenging at some sites.

Gravel sites with lots of big trees. About 75% of the park is not big rig friendly. I had a heck of a time getting into 106 with a 42ft 5th wheel. Wifi spotty at best, but they are working on it.

It’s a nice quiet campground. Not many frills but we don’t need many. Lots of shade. The lots are sparsely spread pea gravel. They could have more grass but the leaves made up for it. The back RV row has tons of room for you 40’ers and camping gear! The middle and river sites were a little tighter. They have pastures with sheep ,fallow deer, elk, llamas, miniature horses and elk with an asphalt trail going around them. Townsend has a completely level bike trail around the city along the River. And it’s a great town to stay in to plan your Smoky Mountain adventure.

Our stay was great! The setting is clean quiet, and convenient to the National Park and other attractions. Very clean restrooms and very friendly, helpful staff. This was our first time in the area, and we want to come back so we drove around and checked out the other parks. It confirmed that Little River is the best. The other parks were so crowded with very tight spaces.

Stayed there for two nights during the pandemic. Very quiet, nice and spacious camp ground. well leveled. Full hook up. We enjoyed the walk by the little river and the farm nearby. The only downside is wifi not stable. I know most people camping to stay away from business, but we need wifi to keep kids in remote learning. Will come again.

My wife and I travel full time in our RV for the last 2 years. We have stayed in MANY campgrounds all across the country, and this is the second worst. Very narrow road with narrow sites makes for a nightmare backing in. Workers here are overly unfriendly. Service is non-existent. When I emptied my tanks, sewer came up in site #48 all over the ground. I told the office but they never cleaned it up. Next time my tanks wouldn’t drain. Worker blamed me for blocking the pipe, then discovered their tanks were full. Although they claim to be ‘dog friendly’, there is NO PLACE to bring your dog except for a small strip of grass next to the highway with no fence. Because of this, there is dog poop EVERYWHERE! Even in the road. There are permanent RV’s here with mold so bad that I can smell it 4 campsites away. They are also in terrible states of disrepair with trash all over their sites. If you don’t pay extra for a riverside site, you do not have any access to the river. One good thing I can say is they have a great laundry room. It is open to the public but kept very clean. 9 washers ($1.50) and 10 dryers ($1.75). The area is beautiful and has many campgrounds. Stay at one of those and use this laundry room.
