We stayed in Kestrel Loop, site 78. Everything south of the entrance road is essentially treeless, but has full hookups. Almost everything north of the entrance road has lots of shade but it is electric only and sites are closer together. The freeway noise is non-stop, except for maybe 1a-3a isn’t too bad. This is a park where most of the locals go to get away from home on the weekends. And by locals I mean people living 10 miles or closer. The full hookups sites are level, fairly large and not too close to each other. The campground is well maintained. There are walking paths around all the little lakes. Lots of birding opportunities. You could kayak or SUP in the lakes but not swim. Lots and lots of people fishing. The prettiest area is walking around Pelican Pond. We camped here because our kids leave in the area, one north and one south so for us it was a trade-off to see the kids, but not a site we would normally choose to visit. Maybe an overnight on the way somewhere, though not cheap. I would only stay again if I was visiting my kids and grandkids. $41/night plus $9/day entry is expensive, especially when we normally camp dispersed. I guess that’s what you get when camp near the big city or maybe I should say, I should be grateful that’s all it costs to be near Denver.

I guess we didn't understand why this was a state park. We've been all over the USA and usually state parks are large, each site has some privacy, and there are things to see and do. This is a basic campground with small lakes, a river, birds, fish, and that's pretty much it. There are no programs for children, or adults for that matter, a LOT of highway noise, catch and release fishing, and some kayaking. The sites are level concrete pull-thrus. There is no bathhouse on the full hookup side so make sure your toilet and shower are in working order. There is a fire ring, a covered picnic table at each site. Firestone, CO has King Sooper's grocery store (Kroger affiliate) closeby that was completely amazing. If ever in the area again, we probably wouldn't stay here as a first choice. The $47 we paid daily (when averaged) includes the surprise $80 for an annual Colorado state park pass sticker for our truck. Yes, they may tell you about this somewhere on their website or whatever, but since I book all of our reservations months in advance, I guess we forgot about it. My mouth gaped open when the park employee advised us of this fee (The annual pass was cheaper than the daily rate of $9). $47 is about what we have to pay now for just the basics anywhere we go, so I shouldn't have been shocked, but somehow I expected more for our money.

I stayed here on Thursday through Sunday nights. Friday and Saturday were very very busy. the sites in the loop with site 18 and very closely packed. I had a family reunion on one side with kids running all over and another couple having a dinner party on the other side. This campground is located between Denver and Boulder right off of I 25. On the weekend there were more people here fishing than there were people camping, probably 100 or more. The landscaping is nice with more ponds than I have seen in one campground area before. On Sunday many people left. So I would advise avoiding Friday and Saturday nights. There are many many geese and other waterfall even some Raptors including eagles. unfortunately the road noise from I 25 is so loud that it is hard to hear the birds. Most people seem to think that since there was so much road noise you might as well play your radio loud. And of course everybody is going to appreciate your taste in music, right a whole? I was in the area to pick up a truck camper it overland vehicle outfitters. That was convenient but I doubt I would ever come here again because of the exorbitant price and noise. The park is very clean and manicured and all the facilities are top notch like most Colorado state parks but the confluence of so many people in one place makes it much too urban for me.

$9 extra per day for access to the park!!! However, August is military month so we got it for free. You pay it all up front and don’t have to deal with it every time you leave. Close to the highway but really didn’t bother us. It was very beautiful, quiet, and well kept. Showers were nice and easy to use. I love a good pull through site too 😅 we will definitely come back.

Pros: Concrete level pads Good space between sites Some sites have nice views of ponds Full hookups Close to I-25 Cons: Roads are rough Constant interstate noise (no problem inside a 4-season camper, but very noticeable outside) $41 site fee + $9 park fee = $50 for a state park Good for an overnighter on the way to Wyoming. Wouldn’t want to stay long though.

This is a nice state park, good location to Denver, Rocky Mountain NP and up/down I-25/I-70. The park has several ponds for fishing and bird watching, the geese are everywhere. Our site was pull thru, FHU's, level and clean. We did not use any restroom or dump station facility. Many reviews complain about hwy noise from I-25, I didn't have any issue even sitting outside with friends for an afternoon BBQ. My only complaint, if that, is the lack of shade in the park. The picnic tables are covered which was nice, but no trees to shade the rest of the site.

St. Vrain is our "home" park. There are two sides to this park, one side being full hook-ups and the other side water and electric only. We stayed on the full hook-up side. Site 56 is beautiful, level, and right on the water. There are multiple small lakes here and they just recently started to allow paddle boards. No swimming is allowed in these lakes. The sites are clean, friendly rangers, and nice camp hosts. You HAVE to watch your speed in this state park or you will get ticketed. The only downfall of this park is that it is right off of the highway so if you are looking to camp and get away from it all, this park may not be for you. However, for us, we work during the week and like to be close to stores and St. Vrain is perfect for all of that! Internet test via OpenSignal - T-Mobile 5G Download 34.3 Upload 8.30

This park would have been a 5 w/out the road noise. It didn't really bother us but if you're looking for quiet, you may be disappointed. With that said, the site we stayed in was an easy pull through with 50 amp FHU on a parking pad surrounded by gravel. There's a lot of space between you and your neighbors. Longmont has plenty of shopping so you can stock up and both Boulder and Denver are a reasonable drive away. There is no shade here so keep that in mind if you come during the heat of summer. Cell was great on both Verizon and ATT with no booster required. Up/down speeds were very fast. Plenty of OTA channels as well. The hiking around the park was plentiful with various defined trails around the ponds and lakes. Rangers were nice but left you alone. I would recommend you do what we did and buy the annual Colorado state park pass. It will pay for itself in about a week's worth of time and then you save the extra daily parking price.

It's one of those parks that allows you to make a reservation and charges you another $9/day when you arrive for a park pass. So instead of $36 per night, that extra fee makes it $45, which is steep for an electric post on a concrete pad. They also charge for showers. $.75 for 4 minutes. Not much shade, lots of road noise from I-25, and I don't really understand what qualifies this as a state park? It's a handful of retention ponds next to an interstate. We stayed here while we visited a friend in the area. We would have preferred to boondock somewhere, but with it being 100 degrees, we needed electric service for an AC. OH! But there's great AT&T service, which is a big win for us since we work on the road.

Good flat, clean sites but no privacy and a lot of road noise. This is a good place to stop for a rest but not if you’re looking for a more scenic experience. Great mobile service too.

Glad I was in an RV! The freeway noise would otherwise be bothersome. Great pull through site. Wish we had a kayak with being surrounded by these large ponds. Or had brought our bikes to ride all these paths. Next time.
