Cal Expo RV Park in de Verenigde Staten

During our journey from Washington to Southern California, we decided to take a pit stop here. Sacramento didn't appear to have many quality accommodations, but we were pleased with our choice. The place was a bit tricky to locate, but we managed to find it by following the signs around the fairground's edges. We did a quick drive-through to ensure it was secure before deciding to stay. The staff at the front desk were amicable and supportive. They assigned us to site 407, a concrete back-in with full hook-ups and a level surface. If you have a motorhome up to 35 feet and can handle back-in parking, sites 402-414 are recommended as they are secluded, quiet, and surrounded by trees. We visited during the off-season when no events were taking place, so there was ample space between the sites. However, it might feel a bit cramped if fully occupied. The remaining 400s and 500s sites are gravel-based, primarily pull-throughs. Sites 100-300 are paved but not as level, offering both pull-through and back-in options. They also have a decent-sized dog park for off-leash fun, which was a nice touch! The place is quite basic and not particularly scenic, but it covers the necessities and feels secure. We'll certainly consider staying here again during our travels!

Three months ago my wife and I had booked July 9-12, 2022 at Cal Expo RV while visiting our grandchildren in nearby Roseville. I received a voice mail on Friday, May 6th asking me to call their office. I called only to be informed that they were cancelling my reservation because a large group was coming in for the California State Fair and they needed my site. No apology, no "were sorry", no "how can we make it up to you", just zip. Talk about low class. Apparently I am not the only one, while speaking with another RV park staff member he mentioned he had already had several people call seeking space for the same reason. Here's a tip, stay elsewhere because Cal Exp does not honor reservations people make months in advance. .

We just wanted a safe place to park for the night as we passed thru Sacramento and this worked out nicely. A few complaints: 1) we arrived at 3:47p but the hosts had already left so we were unable to get a bathroom key; 2) there were plenty of open sites but we were assigned a site that wasn’t level, and; 3) this is a parking lot with lots of very bright street lights. These are all minor issues. The access was easy, we liked the nice hiking trails and the fairgrounds was hosting a harness race which was fun to watch. All in all we’ll stay again next time we are passing thru.

We stayed for a few weeks while in Sacramento. The hosts were great, it’s so close to a great biking/walking trail, with flat level sites. It was not crowded (COVID and winter season), but imagine the sites would be tight during busy season. Out of all of the options (we looked at most), this one was the best in the area!

Yeah, we were surprised by the price, but we needed to be in the area that night. It is a big parking lot, but our site was between 2 trees and we had shade most of the day. Nice fenced in dog park with shade trees, grass & water. Laundry facilities only had 2 machines but they were very clean. Did not use the bathroom or showers. The lot is backed up against the Sacramento River levy. Lots of locals use it for walking or jogging. No issues and there are security cameras all around the lot.
