Camp Lotus

PO Box 578
95651, Coloma
California, Stati Uniti d'America

Camp Lotus fronts the South Fork of the American River three miles downstream from Coloma. It is nestled in a broad river valley which was inhabited by Maidu Indians for thousands of years before James Marshall's historic gold discovery in 1848. Camp Lotus is in the middle of the Mother Lode Country at 700' elevation, surrounded by grasslands, pines and oaks which are typical of the Sierra Foothills. The immediate campground environment ranges from riparian willows and cottonwoods up through tall pines, oaks, ceanothus, toyon and blackberries. We have 43 campsites and 4 cabin units on 23 acres, allowing ample room for privacy and roaming, wildflowers and river watching.

Small amount of water/electric sites. Sites 1-6 along River are great. Been here in fall and spring. Rafters and kayaker go by on river. No dogs allowed (the only downside for us).

Well I have only stayed in a private campground facility inside California maybe twice, so this was a new experience for me. After visiting another RV Camp nearby and being shocked at the daily minimum rate for one tent camper, I decided to look elsewhere and glad I did. This small campground is so well maintained and beautiful, I would definitely come back. Although it is a busy place for river paddlers; Day use parking for kayakers and rafters, it totally quiets down after sunset. There are maybe 100 sites, but they have seclusion, vegetation and some sites have river front access. I stayed overnight in an OPEN tent camp area near the river launch area. Green grass, wild geese, wild turkey, and I even saw a bald eagle fly past.

Camp Lotus is a small campground, right on the American River in a very scenic setting. Large sites, well spaced apart. No gravel pad— just dirt- and ours did require some leveling. Site had a picnic table & fire ring, 30 Amp service & water. Restrooms are clean but a bit rustic. LouAnne greeted us and was very friendly and helpful. This is a wonderful spot for those who want peace & quiet. NO dogs are allowed. Great place for those wanting to fish or kayak on the river. Short drive (8 min) to Coloma & gold rush state park. The store here has a few basic amenities. We loved it and would definitely come back.
