About Karoo Gariep Tented Camp
The Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve is the home of the only hippos in the Northern Cape; the Karoo hippos. In addition to this there are also some 200 bird species.
The Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve Tented Camp is situated halfway between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Upington and the Garden Route making it an ideal stopover. The N1, N9 and N10 national routes run past us.
The tents are a new addition to the range of accommodation on the reserve. The tents are situated on the Western / sunset side of the New Holme Karoo Guest Farm gardens. Under the shade of old Tamarisk trees and overlooking the Karoo Plains and spectacular sunsets only 100 meters from the unique Seekoei River.
The tents are equipped with one double bed and two single beds in two separate sections. Linen and towels are provided. We encourage you to dine in our restaurant on site. You are encouraged to make use of the pool, braai and bar area.
We do sundowner hippo drives, night drives and walks to Koi Sun engravings.
We like a slow pace, peace and quiet, stars, wind in the trees, nature, birds, good food and wine and white linen. We dont like a fast pace, radios, TV, noise, drunk people and loud noise.
The camp is the perfect home to explore the area from with Nieu Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet in one days range. New Holme, Mieliefontein and Wolmado Karoo Guest Farms are situated in the Karoo Gariep Nature Reserve.

It was a lovely, quiet and surene environment. First time sleeping in a tent and it felt at home.

What a beautiful slice of heaven. We stayed in the tented accommodation and it was very comfortable. Well definitely be back.

Good day Better late than never. The welcome we received was amazing. The owners and their family welcomed us into there property and home with open arms. We loved the idea of the bar being a self service set up, it made us feel like we were back home in Seychelles where people still trusted each other....lol The accommodation was clean, neat and satisfactory. We had the privileged of feeding a few of the farm animals which was such an amazing experience for both my kids, husband and I. Although I was stay was very short we loved it and would definitely recommend it to any one. Only small issue which I would like to address, there was a question regarding my payment. No big deal but I had specially made sure that all payments were made before we had even reached South Africa. The agent and the owners need to address these sort of issues before the clients arrived as it did make us feel a bit awkward. But like I said not a big deal just need to bring it to your attention Thank you Karoo Gariep for the lovely stay...
