After arriving, I secured my spot and then collected my documentation. This particular Thousand Trails park is quite small and experiences high visitor turnover, with spots being vacated and occupied before midday, so punctuality is key. Not every spot provides 50 amp power, and some spots in the central island upon park entry are facing each other, which may not be ideal if you're not acquainted or related to the other party. The spots are incredibly cramped, to the extent that my neighbor's sewer hose was in contact with my picnic table. A considerable number of yearly sites are located towards the park's rear and elevated areas, though most are well-kept. The bathroom facilities appeared clean and well-kept. The bathroom building also houses a laundry room with four washing machines and four dryers, but all the dryers were out of order, so I had to do my laundry in town. The park's location is ideal for cycling trails, visiting the Mammoth Caves National Park (entry is free, but cave tours are charged) and exploring the surrounding areas. I thoroughly enjoyed touring local towns like Cave City, which offers tourist attractions and an excellent Mexican restaurant, and Glasgow, which caters to all your shopping needs.

Thousand Trails site. Has seen better days. All of the amenities were in poor shape with peeling paint. The staff was friendly and the grass was green. Wild turkeys wandered throughout property. They had regular social events at the community center but we didn't attend any. The proximity to the NP was great though.

Diamond Caverns Thousand Trails is just inside Mammoth Cave National Park about 10-15 minutes from the main visitor center. We stayed there March 30th - April 4th and the weather ranged from the high 20’s and 30s overnight to rain and lightning storms to warm and sunny in the high 60s. It’s your typical early spring weather mix. The spaces are far enough apart for comfort, though still fairly close. The spaces along the side where we were at (space A-2) had grassy areas behind them with fire pits and picnic tables. We were also diagonal enough that most of our patio side windows faced grass and trees instead of someone else’s RV. Other spaces around the park also had decent grassy areas. What I really liked about the park is that the spaces were in clusters throughout the hills, so it felt more like you were in a smaller park. Instead of RVs as far as the eye could see, you were able to see more trees and grass. Cell service was good on Verizon and AT&T, with 3 to 4 bars each throughout the week. Of course there were slow-downs during the evening hours, but they were minimal. The utilities at our site were fine at 50amp with full hookups. Some sites are only 30 amp and some are only partial hookups. The odd thing is that the map shows certain sites as being full hookup with 30 amps, but there is only one water spigot between two sites. Diamond Caverns has your typical Thousand Trails amenities: laundry, bathrooms with showers, pool, playground with basketball court, mini golf, horseshoe pits, a lounge, and event room. The pool wasn’t open while we were there because it was still early in the year and there was no store, but they do have ice and firewood for sale. We felt very safe there and had no concerns leaving our RV when venturing out. Walking around the RV park is very social – people wave and stop to chat. While we only talked with the staff once (at check-in), the whole place had a very friendly vibe. The property is nice to walk through and has access to a hiking/biking trail that leads to the Mammoth Cave National Park Visitor Center. There’s a shooting range down the road, but the only day we heard anything from it was Saturday. We also had small ant hills (maybe 3 inches high) scattered in our grassy area but had no sign of them throughout the week. Spring had just sprung at the time, so it’s possible they weren’t ready to come outside yet. For major shopping and your big box stores, you’ll need to drive into Bowling Green, which is an easy 20-30 minutes south. There are a couple of smaller stores in nearby Cave City. We didn’t shop at those, but did go into Bowling Green for the Lost River Cave tour, a pretty darn good steak dinner at Montana’s Grille, and grocery shopping (with a decent organic selection) at the Kroger on the same strip. We loved being in Mammoth Cave National Park and just a quick 10-minute drive from the main visitor center. It allowed us to explore even after Brian got off work. We definitely recommend doing as many of the Mammoth Cave tours as you can and hiking the area’s trails. Both vary between short and easy to long and very strenuous. Pick what works best for you and make reservations for the tours ahead of time. We also enjoyed the Lost River Cave boat tour in Bowling Green. It was short, but very informative and unique for the boat part of it. They also have some hiking trails and a picnic area with some fun things for kids of all ages. Diamond Caverns also has its own cave you can tour; though, we didn’t go because the description made it sound a little too strenuous for me. Overall, we feel Diamond Caverns Thousand Trails was a great place to stay and would have loved another week or two here if we had time. We have a Thousand Trails membership, so the price was definitely right (“free” with our membership costs). The location and atmosphere definitely make it worth the stay even if you’d have to pay. We really enjoyed this location. The first time we visited, they had only certain sites we could choose and of course it wasn’t the better ones. Second visit we could choose any site and we loved that! We are full timers and we have 3 businesses we run from the road so LTE cell service is important to us and we choose places that provide WiFi that we pay for at our site. The WiFi here was pretty good as long as your site is right next to a tower. Cell service was like 3G but we have a weboost so we got LTE once we hooked that up. It’s right off I-65 but doesn’t feel like it. There is a dollar general, a gas station and subway within a couple miles. The town of Cave City is one exit up and it has more restaurants and businesses but Glasgow is about 20 mins away and has Walmart and more businesses. The golf course at the campground was $15 for one round of 18 hole golf and included the cart. The course is decent and my husband enjoyed it even though it was freezing cold (January lol). We didn’t get to explore any of the caves or attractions but we loved the giant dinosaurs near the Cave City exit. We will definitely stay here again! Had a lot of trouble getting level but otherwise great!

We stayed here free as part of our Thousand Trails membership. We were at this campground in June of 2019. Diamond Cavern is right outside of the Mammoth Cave National Park and near Bowling Green Kentucky. We used our time here to visit the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green and to explore Mammoth Cave. The check-in process for this campground is smooth and you are led by golf cart to your site. We had a problem with our satellite dish at the first site and the host moved us to a site better suited to our needs. All of the staff that we encountered during our time there were absolutely wonderful. The facilities are clean and well maintained. We appreciated the quality of the laundry room especially as we had been without laundry facilities for several weeks before arriving! The pool was clean and well maintained. Our site was in the pull-through section and it was satisfactory, but I think when we return to the campground we will inquire about a back in site as they were a little more private. Our site was level, and included a nice picnic table and fire ring. It was gravel and grass, and the gravel was sufficient to avoid mud puddles in spite of a good bit of rain.
