About Witteberg Private Nature Reserve

Witteberg Private Nature Reserve is situated about 240km from Cape Town in the heart of the Witteberg mountain range.
It lies midway between Touws River and Laingsburg and is southwest of the historic Matjiesfontein village. The reserve spans 4365 hectares of mountainous terrain, being a transition zone from the Little Karoo to the Great Karoo.
Our self-catering units are fully furnished and equipped for self-catering purposes and include bed-linen and bath towels. There is cutlery, crockery and most of the kitchen utensils one would require.
Mobile braai units are available. Our water meets SABS standards for household use and human consumption. Just bring along your foodstuffs and drinks – there is no shop in the reserve, nor are any catering services offered.

We have magical mountain scenery, early Stone Age artefacts, cultural-historic structures and -ruins, interesting geological formations, wildlife, birdlife, lichens, marine trace fossils, three Matjiesfontein fynbos vegetation types, clear night skies and great silence. These create a unique sense of place and mystery, ensuring that there is something of interest for all nature lovers.
The main focus of the reserve is the conservation of the Fynbos of the Witteberg.
