We paused at this location for a single evening, yet found ourselves desiring a more extended stay. The place was pleasant and the restrooms were neat, all nestled within a stunning park.

We paused at this location en route to Luray caverns and were delightfully astonished! The campground was gorgeous and well-kept, with lovely areas and welcoming individuals.

Kicking off the year with a journey, this location exceeded our expectations. It's conveniently near I-81 and the park has well-maintained roads. Our accommodation was at Hosack Run Campground where pets are welcome. Conversely, Chinquapin Hill Campground is a no-pet zone. The parking spot was a bit narrow, but we managed to park after a few attempts. The site was flat from left to right with a slight decline towards the back. No need for leveling blocks. Power, water, and sewage facilities were easily accessible. However, the water hydrant's anti-siphon valve had a major leakage. We reported it to the host and the campground crew fixed it within 45 minutes. Exceptional service! Every site comes with a picnic table and a fire pit. The table was a bit worn but still in good shape and the fire pit was situated at the back of the site. The restroom facility is fairly new and well-kept. The park and the adjacent state forest offer activities like fishing, boating, and hiking. The hiking paths link to the Appalachian trail and offer a range of difficulty levels. Mobile network coverage was inconsistent with only one bar (T-Mobile) and we didn't find any Wi-Fi.

We stayed just one night at this CG since we were traveling through the area. This was a beautiful PA state park! The park is large, clean and very well maintained. Rangers patrolled through the CG regularly. The sites were exactly the length quoted online (no more and no less) so plan carefully. We selected a full hook-up site but when we arrived, the utilities were extremely far forward on the street side of the camper and we couldn’t use them. Luckily, a fellow camper had an additional power cord and we were able to borrow that for the night. Also, bring leveling blocks because a number of the sites weren’t level, especially front to back, although they were beautifully paved and groomed. We stayed in this park during the week so it was quiet in the park. (Route 30 – the road leading to the campground is busy all the time and it is loud.) The bathhouse on our loop was brand new. It was perfectly clean and spacious, with plenty of shower and toilet stalls. Bring your bug spray! The mosquitos and gnats were awful!

Stayed in Hosack run loop; There is a mixture of tent and hook up sites, and among the hook ups, most are electric only, but there are a few water plus electric mixed in. I really like the commingling of tents and some big rigs - you see every type of camper. Ours had electric only; used site 177 and it was good. We also camped in site 176, which is OK, but a little unlevel, and a manhole cover right under the picnic table. 177 was better. Most sites are reasonably separated, but kind of close by state park standards. Tent sites are nicely placed and pretty private. The wood is pay by honor system in a little hut so nice and dry, and a nice bonus - the host keeps old newspapers and a bin of bark and small thin wood splittings that make starting your fire really easy. As mentioned elsewhere, the bath house is new and nice. Bathhouse has a dish washing station which was closed due to low temperature in early April and early November. There are a couple of pump wells available to get some water in cold weather. There is a nice hiking trail that leaves right from the campground that goes by a stream and leads to other areas of the park. Gettysburg is about 25 minutes away. Price above includes reservation fee.

Stayed in the Hosack loop. Nice variety of sites. Some closer together, some more separate. Variety of big rigs and tents. All seemed pretty level and accessible but not all were paved so bring your levelers. Both Full hookups and electrical only. Camp host was helpful and friendly. It had a new heated clean bath house (very nice for our cold November stay). Can walk right onto a couple of nice easy hiking trails through a pretty forest.Very highly recommend.

First time stay. Roads are a bit tricky but manageable with care. Our site had ample distance from the next. Caledonia is on a hillside so there's that, individual sites are level for the most part. My site however, had a slight downward slope, so used my leveling blocks. Water pressure is set at 40psi park-wide seemed slow at first. Not really any bike friendly trails, but lots of hiking trails. There is a nice pool with slides, however it was closed during our stay. The only drawback is that the mountain side echo's the road noise from nearby state rte. and every Harley wanted to gun it The Apple fest was going on during our stay, lots of delicious food and drink. Will be back P.S. Plenty of precut firewood stations at the entrance to the loops, purchased on an honor basis.

Huge pool was closed for C19 but the creeks and hiking trails nearby are a perfect place to keep kids entertained. Rangers and vols have upgraded the creek's condition very nicely. Clean restrooms. Only approximately 25% sites can have a 25 to 35 ft TT, so ask for help selecting one if you need that. Traffic noise can get a bit load when air brakes are used. Golf right across the highway if you like that.

More small TT and tent sites than I'd like. Site 60 was good. Only 25% of others could hold a 25 to 30 ft TT. ONLY $7 per day saved with a primitive no facilities site. Camp map doesn't apply until you start the climb , past the 1st parking lot and playground area. Confused me at 1st. Out of state rates are approx $5 higher. Could not reserve day of. They need you to walk up for that and choose a site , and then pay. ?? Don't try the long way around Gettysburg. Use SR 30.

We stayed in a non-electric site in the Chinquapin campground. The bath houses were very nice and newly constructed. The road and sites were paved asphalt, unfortunately most sites are very unlevel. Even the full hook-up sites looked difficult. We really liked the campground, but most sites are too small, the most are suitable only for tents. Site 10 required six inches of blocks on one side, and I still wasn’t level. We would come back here again because it was a great location, but would only get a electric site. The only non-electric sites I could make work are #87 & #97. A good campground, but be prepared for some extra work.

We stayed five nights in the Hosack Run area. Overall we were pleased with the stay. The bathhouse in this section is brand new and very well kept. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. We don’t quite understand the reasoning for the layout of the water/power/sewer hookups in this park. There were sites with all amenities and some only power and they were adjacent to each other by just a few feet. Some with no amenities at all. A few yards of pipe and these sites could all be full hookups. We shared some water with a site next to us after being invited to by the person staying there and the ranger didn’t like it too much, he said “you didn’t pay for that”. I told him I’d pay whatever it was worth but after a call to the office, they decided it was fine. I was a bit peeved at that comment so I went to the office insisting to pay for the water but they told me there was no way to pay for just water, so I left it at that. They need to get an overall strategy for their power/water/sewer. We have never encountered a place where the sites are randomly with/without amenities. Usually it is done in sections, boy not here! In both campgrounds at this park there are a lot of sites that are on the edge from a size standpoint. It is a great park for pop ups and tenting, but short on being able to take larger rigs. Nothing wrong with that, you just need to be careful of the site you pick if you have a rig of any size. Overall, we liked the campground and had a pleasant stay.

Site 168 in the Hosak Run loop where pets are allowed. It is on a slope and a curve with a tree on one side and drop off on the other. Needed several leveling blocks to make it work and there were some washout ruts around the site. It is very close to the next site, which thankfully was vacant for our stay. No water at this but it looked like others had it. The bathhouse seemed recently updated and was one of the cleanest and nicest we experienced. There is wifi at the park office. The park is really nice and we enjoyed hiking right from our campsite and spending a little time on the AT.

Very clean park. Lots of easy hiking can be done. Nice walk from hosack run campground (pet friendly) to main park. Site 183 is very level.

We take you to the Caledonia State Park picnic and day use areas, and both the Chinquapin Hill Campground and Hosack Run Campground. Caledonia State Park is centrally located within the Michaux State Forest and is just 16.3 miles from Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center via US Route 30. The Appalachian Trail bisects the park. A dump station with fresh water fill is available at each of the aforementioned campgrounds. Verizon and AT&T cellular service were too weak to measure upload and download speeds. Voice only service was either intermittent or nonexistent throughout the park.

Site was ok and has 50 amp electric hookup. You can hear Route 30 traffic. The pool is pay per use and there are trails for hiking and at least one stream that runs through the park. Quick short weekend get away. So sores are spacious others are a bit close together. Our was somewhere on the middle. Our loop was clean and quite. Bath house has be recently rebuilt and is clean. We were in site 179, electric hook up only and next to no cell service.
