Campsite 48 west loop. Good roads. Good showers. Never stayed at a corp of engineers campsite I didn’t like. Not much of a view of the Mississippi from our site

Stayed in the southern loop of the park and it is very nice! The north loop ( sites #1-39) is rock road with quite a few pot holes and dusty. The southern most loop ( sites 40-73) seems to be the newest and has paved roads and very nice bathhouse. 30/50 amp power in southern loop not sure about northern loop. Grass mowed, clean and quite. Park was full when we stayed. Cell service is 3 plus bars with AT&T and Verizon.

We stayed in site 40 on the upper west loop. The road is paved In this loop and the site pads are gravel and mostly level. Our site was very long, wide and spacious with close access to the Mississippi River! There’s a bathroom and water spigot right next to this site as well, which was convenient. Only bit of annoyance was an electrical pole in our direct view which also has a bright light that shined into our trailer at night. That seemed to only be an issue for our site which was at the end of the row. Middle sites along the River shouldn’t have this issue. Cell service for my AT&T device worked great! My partner’s Verizon device however did not! Also, Sprint/T-Mobile appears to have no service at all in the area. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are no full grocery stores nearby. There is an Arco gas station about 7 minutes south that has firewood and basic convenience foods and beverage. A little farther down the road another gas station has a slightly wider selection of foods and decent selection of Wisconsin cheeses! Overall we enjoyed our stay and would love to come back if ever in the area!

When you first turn off Hwy 35, before you enter the park, you will see a permanent RV/trailer park that is run down - keep going. The park is beautiful, very well maintained and patrolled. Our site backed up to the river and was very spacious! Great access for kayaks from your site. The Upper loop is all gravel and floods easily. The West Loop is paved and nicer. We did not use the bathroom facilities while here. You are approximately 45 minutes from a major town, so bring what you need.

US Army Corp of Engineer campgrounds rarely disappoint and this one fit our needs! Our site was a back in with a great view of the Mississippi River. Only electric - no water or sewer hook ups. There is a water spigot to fill up your tank and a dump station. The sites are well spaced, some with trees and a bath house that we did not use. The campground is between a busy railroad line and the river with lots of barge traffic but surprisingly it was not noisy. The closest town is very small but you can cross the river into Iowa and there is a slightly larger city. I would recommend bringing any food you will need with you. There is a Lock & Dam station not far and it was a great place to visit and watch how the barges enter into the Lock.

Frozen pipes from last winter have them closed. Was advised by the camp host they will not be opened anytime soon.
