We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Super C Dynamax DX3. We enjoyed this park a lot because we had a great site. The majority of the sites in the Kiptopeke State park are on the open space. All sites are spacious, clean and green, but there is nowhere to hide from the sun. There are very few shaded ones and we were lucky to get one of those. Kiptopeke State park has two unguarded beaches on the Chesapeake Bay. Kiptopekes northern swim beach is nearly half a mile long. The south beach, which is even longer is open to swimming, fishing, boating and dogs are allowed on leash. And its absolutely beautiful! We have a video about this park in our YouTube channel - Summertime RV Rovers - RV Campgrounds in Maryland and Virginia: Kiptopeke State Park and Outstanding Dreams Alpaca Farm. Please check for yourself.

We stopped here on the Wed after labor day in our 38ft MH for a couple of nights on our way from NC to DE. I had found pictures of most of the sites and selected on that looked level but when we arrived it was too sloped to get completely level with our rig. It was a comfortable quiet place to stay and we had enough privacy because there were several sites either side of us that were empty. With the lack of trees here it would likely be more noisy and feel more crowded if sites on each side were occupied. Overall we had a good stay. The trails are clear and easy hikes there are many places to access the beach and the cement ship breakwater is a unique feature as well as a great place to see so sea birds if you have decent binoculars. There is also a boat launch and a place to put in a kayak or canoe or similar personal craft so you can go right out to the ships. The people fishing from the pier were having some luck and there was good beach combing for shells. If you want larger shelly you may need to walk past the last boardwalk on the south end of the park as it is a less traveled area. The only real negatives were the levelness of the site and a slight septic odor in the outside air when we were there. We stay in a lot of state parks and this is the first VA state park we have stayed in overall if is pretty typical of parks in other states but the pricing is quite a bit higher than average. Still less than most private campgrounds and the dump site is good and right next to the trash dumpsters so leaving with a fresh rig is easy.

I try to be positive, but we had a few issues with this campground. First the good. This appears to be a fisherman's paradise. If you have a boat, or a pole, this is the place. Also, tent camping is looks good too. The employees are nice as well as the Rangers. Plenty of trails for bikes and walks. Now the negative. On the booking website it showed our site as E/W/S. However they must of had issues because any site A or B as far as I can tell has no sewer. It appears the sites in C do but you need to dig into the VA parks website (not the booking site) to find the spread sheet to make sure. In all the camping loops there appear to be only 2 pet pickup (bag/can) stations and 2 recycled 40 gallon trash can's. No regular cans. You have to haul your trash to the 8-10 dumpsters at the entrance. Surprisingly, I would think this would encourage liter, but I didn't see any. The beach is small but nice. South beach you may take a dog, north beach you can't. The beaches needed to be raked. Lost of seaweed. Water is calm and you can walk or swim way out and its still shallow which is nice. Pics are deceiving because the sites are very close to each other. The sites in the pines are all uphill. All 3 cell carriers have great signals. Going to eat in Norfolk has the extra cost of the bridge/tunnel and there are not a lot of choices close by on the peninsula . Food Lion and a few stores are right up the road as well as a few places at Cape Charles. It was full during the weekend but not too bad during the weekdays. It's an okay state park but just know what to expect.

This is our second time visiting here. We love it because it has full hookups for our travel trailer. Sites are large with picnic tables and fire pits. Access to beaches (one specific for our dog) with very small waves for our younger children to enjoy. A playground and lots of trails to walk on! We love this place!

We stayed here 5 days because of the beach access. The full hook ups were also essential for summer camping. Finding them in a state park was a bonus. We spent time on the beach and it was really nice, not crowded and lots of family’s. We kayaked the ghost ships at sunset and it was a blast. We caught a sunset each night as they are beautiful. There were lots of great places to kayak nearby. We spent an afternoon hiking the perimeter trails which can also be biked. They were all nice and very level. Cape Charles is 10 minutes away for a fun day walking and shopping. It’s worth a day for a visit. The laundry facility was poor with only one dryer as the other was broken. Dennis & Don our hosts were always very available & helpful.

This park is super it has a lot going for it. 1st time visit with fhu. Easy access from highway. Clean bathhouse. Lots to do trails, beach on the Chesapeake. The showers do share a common dressing area if that is a concern. Also we picked up deer ticks. So be aware if hiking the trails. The bh does have a laundry room.

This is one of the few state parks in VA that have full sewer hook-up, so that is always a plus. The park staff are excellent and very friendly, even came around to let us know a storm was coming in and to roll up our awning. The beaches overlook the cement/concrete fleet which is interesting and it was good clean beaches. Also went fishing off the pier and caught a stingray! Great Place and would highly recommend it.

We stayed here for 9 nights in October 2020. Our site was large and easy to get into, as the roads were large. The site included a large picnic table that is handicap acessible and fire pit with a nice graye for grilling. The B loop is largely in an open field setting although there were two tall trees near our site. Power was good, water pressure seemed high so bring a regulator. Others had mentioned poor sewage drainage, we did not experience this, even though we had a few very rainy days. The bathhouses we kept relatively clean even thought the park was full on the weekends. The showers were hot, large, and had great water pressure. The only drawback was there was not individual dressing areas. We had two bars of Verizon but plenty to stream from. We had three bars of AT&T and used that for work and entertainment. Make sure you catch a birding walk with Ranger Stan or one of his Owl Prowls. The WWII concrete ships used as a sea wall were another interesting surprise.

We stayed at an EWS site. The site itself was nice and level, beautifully tucked away in the woods (A loop). With our spot we were close to the beach and able to enjoy both the sun rises and sunsets. HOWEVER this park has a serious problem with the sewer system. Depending on the wind direction it’s pretty common to get a whiff of sewage. The reason? The sewer system is seriously outdated. We could not even dump our tanks at even a moderate flow without it bubbling up and overflowing. We called maintenance and they said that it’s a common problem and suggested using the dump station. Because of this, I don’t think we’d ever come back. If having a reliable sewer hookup is important to you, skip Kiptopeke.
