Accessing the highway is simple. There are extended pass-through spots suitable for large caravans. Many of the areas are significantly inclined, however, the lower side is conveniently placed for the disposal hose. The spacing between the pass-through spots is limited and fire pits are dangerously located adjacent to where the towing vehicle is stationed. The campground manager is very helpful and the check-in and check-out process is straightforward.

Between the caverns and I81 this older park has seen better days. The longer we were there the more it grew on us and we'd stay again if in the area. Sites 61 and 62 are your best chance at satellite. We were able to connect DirecTV. Utilities all work fine. Able to get level on dirt and grass tight site. Trash cans at each site emptied regularly. Dark at night. Highway noise and truck air brakes all day and night. Picnic tables are very old. Some are just broken and others dangerous. Fire pits are fine. Old and moldy campers along the back but their outdoor space is kept clean. Plenty of room in parking lot at store to unhook and check in. Salem nearby has eateries and all services. Roanoke 30 minutes with great downtown and museums.

Not a destination campground. But good for overnighting or short trips near Roanoke/Blacksburg. Visited family in Roanoke and this was the closest campground. Worked for what we needed. Old campground, spots are long, but very tight. Maybe a foot or so between our slide and our neighbors. Some of the sites were pretty uneven, but ours didn’t require anything extra. Internet was pretty good. Did not check out the bathrooms. No laundry on site. Trash cans at the end of each site was nice! If you stay here, take the tour of the Caverns! Fun, 50min long tour and if you’re staying at the campground you get a discount.

This park is right off I81 (Exit 132 in Virginia) and is easy to access. The staff was very friendly and the hookups adequate, sites easily accessible. Why I say it's not a destination is the noise of 81 is constant but tolerable and there are several poorly maintained full time sites that take away from the overall clean appearance. It is however a great stop over site to get some rest for the road weary traveler and worth the stop. There is a great gas station and Which Wich sandwich shop next door and a Walmart, Harbor Freight and more 10 minutes away.

Easy on/off art 81. Altho this is very close to the highway, we stayed at a site away from it and closer to the entrance. Staff was very friendly. We booked a Monday night stay, then decided we would rest another night. The staff is closed Tues and Wed., they said just stay then call us on Thursday to pay for the other night! Who does that on an honor system? Yes it was a little noisy from the trucks on Rt. 81 but we were far enough away it didn’t bother us. Many people live there year round so I suppose they got used to the noise. Caverns and everything closed due to Covid, except gift shop where office is. I would recommend this place.

We've been to this campground many times as we have family in Salem, VA. It's close enough to town to get somewhere quickly without actually being in town. Everything works and is in good repair. The spaces are a bit close together but plenty long for big rigs. Basically you probably can't put your awning all the way out. Cell/data service is good and their WiFi, while unsecured, is quite good... just make sure your firewalls are in place. In short, there's plenty of bandwidth available. If you're overly sensitive about noise, then there may be a problem, but for most people it should be fine. There are garbage cans at every site and the fire rings and picnic tables tend to be placed towards the front of the grassy area so that you can use them without feeling cramped in between the RVs. There are a couple of good dog parks in the area, along with tubing, golf and the Appalachian trail.

All of our hookups worked great. Felt safe at all times. We left our grill and bikes and other stuff out with no problem. Staff SUPER friendly. Very quiet. Some road noise but it did not bother us. Everyone was very respectful to everyone else. VERY small sites. This is a place to park your camper and go explore the great outdoors and all the area has to offer. The sites are so small there isn’t much room to do much more than sit at the picnic table. A little too close for our comfort for a fire. We felt the campground was well maintained. There are some older units...but didn’t really focus on them. Would definitely stay here again. Bring your own activities for the kids. Bathrooms were closed. Conveniently located. Trash picked up regularly. Super friendly staff.
