We reached our destination after sunset, searching for an unoccupied area large enough to accommodate a 30-foot trailer. After three unsuccessful attempts, we settled for spot 12, which did not display a visitor's pass. There was no system in place to verify availability or check-in during or after operational hours. The following day, I was informed at the reception that spot 12 was reserved, and was offered a selection of available spots. Interestingly, spot 12 remained vacant throughout our three-night stay. The only downside was having to relocate amidst cold, rainy weather. The park, established in 1978, has relatively level but short spaces due to its age. However, the amenities appear to be recently updated and maintained in pristine condition. The park also offers ample space and enjoyable trails. We spent three nights there as a brief escape and to tour the nearby Jack Daniel's and George Dickel distilleries. We would certainly consider returning.

The tranquility is only occasionally disrupted by a bass boat on the water. The grounds are flat and covered in gravel. The complimentary Wi-fi is impressive, likely due to the antenna being strategically placed between plots #64 and 65. Although there are only three available TV channels, the mobile network coverage exceeded prior expectations. The maintenance team was spotted on several occasions, but the campsite manager was not. We certainly intend to return.

What a shame! It's easy to see this park was once beautiful with scenic trails and nice campsites and amenities, but those days are gone. While the campsites are still pretty nice the rest has declined. Shower / restroom buildings are badly deteriorated and need to be replaced. Trails are strewn with leaves and tree limbs and rickety picnic tables adorn many campsites. Water faucets often leak and power outlets are worn and frequently heat due to the loose connection. Park staff ride through in shiny pickup trucks but don't seem to do anything to care for the park. The drive to get there requires traversing narrow, winding roads with frequent sharp curves and no shoulders. I'll go there again simply because it's close to home, but it badly needs some renovations.

This campground is in the woods. Sites have electricity and water. Numbers 1-4 also have sewer. Our nearest biffy had 4 unisex lockable rooms with a toilet, sink, and shower. They didn't appear dilapidated to me. Our Verizon service was dicey with 1, sometimes 2 bars. The park has free wifi but we were told the signal varies in strength. Ours was weak and very slow, requiring as much as 2 minutes to load a web site. The campground is elevated and separated from the lake by woods. Most sites cannot see the lake. Parking pads are very short. Our Class B barely fit. They are wide, however; a neighbor managed to cram a large trailer into one on a diagonal. I don't know where he parked his truck. The park has a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course called Bear Trace. It has 5 sets of tee that pretty well accommodate different skill levels. The greens are very tricky.

Our adventures recently landed us at Tim's Ford State Park. It is located in Winchester, TN just across Monteagle from us people over here on the east portion of the state. As far as the campground itself, it is a pretty basic campground that is out in the woods. The sites are shorter, but they are spaced out a decent amount. It's not a huge amount of room, but you aren't crammed in like sardines in a lot of them. There are a lot of hiking trails in the area, but we didn't get to use any of them because it was a decently rainy weekend that ended with some snow flurries. There are a lot more activities to do in the summer as a lot of this park focuses on the waterways that surround it. There is also a pool that looks like it's probably a nice area to relax when it's opened up. It's late January at the moment so of course we aren't swimming. There are playgrounds for the kids as well as a premier golf course for the big children that are into that sort of thing. The golf course is supposed to be great and I've talked to many people that go there and they all love it. It is a bear trace golf course. They also have cabins to rent if you aren't feeling much like camping. As far as the sites at the main campground there are sewer hookups at sites 1-4. Of those I would prefer 1 or 2. I also recommend site 7 and both of the handicap sites (51 and 52.) If you really want a lake view you do have the option to go over to site 35, but it's not the largest site and it's not level around the parking pad. If you are wanting to be on the water, I would try for the fairview campground which is 9 miles away, but is still reserved through the park system. This is an amazing looking place. We will be going back this summer to find more adventures there to share with you.
