Arcosanti is an architecturally important site that allows camping in their parking lot for a nominal fee. I called ahead to confirm allow ability, which is recommended if you are arriving late. We arrived in time to take the last tour, then set up camp. There we learned that we could use their community kitchen as well as the public restrooms throughout the evening. It was nice to be able to cook in a regular kitchen. The next day we bought a beautiful bell (that’s one of their enterprises). They have a cafe that was closed for the holidays. I highly recommend this tour and stay. While Paolo Soleri’s plans for Arcosanti never evolved to scale, his ideas continue to have an impact on our understanding of healthy urban community building. A few days earlier we had toured Biosphere 2 and it was fascinating to see two evolutions of humans attempts to create a utopia.
